A common variant of potato wedges identified as jojos is traditional in some parts of the United States, especially Idaho, Oregon, Washington, Montana, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northern Utah, Northeast Ohio, Wisconsin, and Upstate New York.
Jojo potatoes are a hallmark of Northeast Ohio. It was a specialty sold at the nearby best restaurants and was usually eaten with chicken wings and a serving of Spanish food.
It's speculated that the word Jojos was taken from the concept of "junk" because bits of the potatoes were called waste before marketers discovered they could be deep fried and made into fluffy, edible food.
